Douye Diri Early Life
Douye Diri was born on June 9, 1972, in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Nigeria. He is a member of the Ijaw ethnic group. Diri attended Kolokuma/Opokuma Grammar School, Sampou, and proceeded to study Political Science and Public Administration at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1997.

Diri began his career as a teacher at the Community Secondary School, Sampou, in 1998. He later joined the Bayelsa State Civil Service, where he served in various capacities, including as Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, and Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media.
In 2011, Diri was elected as the Member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly representing Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency I. He served two terms in the House of Assembly, during which he was the Chairman of the House Committee on Education.
In 2019, Diri was elected as the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State under Governor Seriake Dickson. On February 14, 2020, Diri was sworn in as the Governor of Bayelsa State following the sack of David Lyon by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
