Aminu Ado Bayero was born on June 25, 1967, in Kano, Nigeria. He is the son of Ado Bayero, the 13th Emir of Kano, and Hajia Binta Fatima. Bayero attended the Government Secondary School in Kano, where he graduated in 1984. He then proceeded to the University of Dundee in Scotland, where he studied economics. He graduated from Dundee in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics.

In 2007, Bayero was appointed the Emir of Kano by the Kano State Government. He succeeded his father, Ado Bayero, who had died earlier that year. Bayero has been the Emir of Kano ever since.
