Queen of Elephants

Synopsis

The plot of this interesting movie It focuses on Athena, an elephant mother who is 50 years old and who becomes the matriarch of a herd of females. In this pack we can find Mala, the eldest daughter Mili and the newborn Mimi.

These elephants live in Kenya, in a bucolic area known as The kingdom with various water wells. In these wells there is a more diverse fauna such as frogs, bulls, chameleons, beetles or turtles. This variety of species is very important, since you can clearly see that they live in symbiosis. That is, all animals help each other to survive in different conditions. Here without a doubt it is clear how life can develop in full nature, something that for many will be something unknown.

Due to a Great drought in Kenya, elephants are forced to leave your natural environment migrating away from its territory to a savannah. Obviously the road is not easy at all since they must feed and drink along the way, and the wells are not very close to each other. The real problem they are going to have in this journey is that the matriarch, Athena, you must watch over Mimi which is the newborn of the pack and does not have a resistance that is too good. Here is a big decision ahead: abandon Mimi or put the entire pack at risk.

This trip of the elephants is narrated by the English actor Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Review

This film undoubtedly shows us the difficulties that animals face in nature in the face of the different adversities that occur. Many of these problems can be caused by ourselves, humans, so without a doubt this is a documentary that is worth watching to raise awareness. It is true that it can be hard to see whole since you have to fascinate quite this type of content to enjoy it as it deserves. The different shots we see in the documentary are simply beautiful. The quality in this regard is very good and the photographs even more so the chosen scenario and the way of recording it is tremendously good. Without a doubt this is a movie that deserves to be seen on a large 4K screen to enjoy all the scenarios.

One of the problems that can be put to this documentary is that falls into the topics than we found in other deliveries of the competition. The differentiation of the rest of the documentaries that we can find that is certainly something to improve for future documentaries has not been sought.

In the script of this movie sometimes It falls a lot in ‘cursilerías’ that take one out of context. But the message of compassion that the production aims to convey undoubtedly reaches the viewer by the way in which the story is told. Also the intimate images that get to visualize do a good part of the work. As we say it makes a wonderful diffusion of the problems of wildlife in these types of countries and the decisions they must take in droves, since we must remember humans are not the only ‘smart’ since many animals also have intelligence and here we see it demonstrated.
