During Apple’s annual shareholder meeting on February 26, Tim Cook expressed concern about their employees in China because of the recent Coronavirus crisis.
Apple’s top management decided to send their employees a package of supplies that contains not only food but also health products and a surprise for the little ones. Many of the employees and their families are in fact relegated to home because of the forty taxes imposed by the Chinese government to deal with the health emergency related to Coronavirus, a situation that involves Apple employees from Wenzhou City and the province of Hubei.
In addition to some groceries, the package sent by Apple also includes face masks, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes in addition to a iPad for the little ones, so as to allow students to continue with their educational path from home. The surprise was obviously very welcome by the families who together with the package also received a support letter addressed to them directly by the Cupertino leaders:
Dear colleagues from Hubei and Wenzhou,
We hope to find you healthy and in excellent shape. Since the last communication with you, we have learned of your great strength in this difficult moment. We understand the difficulties you are facing and would like to provide our best support to you and your families. Hubei and the city of Wuhan have been hit hard by the Coronavirus epidemic, which has so far caused 2,835 victims in China.
We are sending our best wishes to you on behalf of the entire Apple Team, together with a CareKit for you and your families. In the kit you will find several items and an iPad that can be used to facilitate children’s online learning or to help them spend time during their extended stay at home.
In addition, a number of consultancy services have been specially prepared to help you during this period.
The epidemic of Coronavirus it has had a terrible impact on the world economy, including the Chinese economy which continues to experience a difficult moment of forced stop of production and which could also lead to the cancellation of WWDC 2020 scheduled for June. The hope is obviously that the emergency situation can come back in the shortest possible time.
